  • list of current affiliates (all due for re-affiliation).

Hackney TUC has sent the following letter to trade unions, asking them to encourage their local branches to affiliate.

Hackney Trades Union Council is a thriving, active and campaigning trades council with a particular commitment to challenging discrimination in all its forms and campaigning for an increase in union membership through union organising drives. We are officially recognised by the TUC as a functioning trades union council.

We have established a programme of activities, which is based around raising the profile of all trade unions. We are keen to establish a good working relationship with all trade unions operating in the borough and we are particularly keen on assisting trade unions with any organising and recruitment activity they wish to undertake in the borough. If you are involved in any such activity and you would like assistance, then please contact us.

We want all unions to play a role in HTUC and we are writing to you to encourage your branches to affiliate and to send along delegates. We accept affiliation from branches whose members either live or work in the borough. To that end I have enclosed a copy of our affiliation form. We would greatly appreciate it if you could circulate this to your London branches along with a copy of this letter and the affiliation form and standard motion.

Our meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm at the Marcon Community Hall at the junction with Marcon Place/Amhurst Road, London E8 and are open to all trade unionists who work or live in Hackney. For more information on our regular activities please visit our website www.hackneytuc.org.uk

If we have sent this to the wrong office, can you please re-direct this letter to the appropriate department, which may be your London regional office?

    Yours fraternally

    John Page
