Gate Gourmet - support still needed!

FROM THE SACKED GATE GOURMET WORKERS SUPPORT GROUP

Although it is nearly 3 weeks since the Sacked Gate Gourmet workers were persuaded to sign a deal of which most expressed a reluctance to do so, the workers are still out on the picket line.

It appears that the BA and Gate Gourmet cannot agree between themselves and as a result the workers still do not know what is going to happen to them. None of them, as yet, have received any letters from the company informing them about their fate and they remain sacked without any money coming in.

It is beginning to look like this is perhaps a ploy by Gate Gourmet to drag the dispute on beyond 30 days from start of the dispute, until 9th November, so that the workers will not be able to pursue claims at the employment tribunals and therefore will be beyond the date when their cases can be heard.

As is expected, the workers are very angry at being left, quite literally, out in the cold and they are becoming very frustrated by the lack of support that they are receiving.

After the last meeting in the Monsoon Hall, when the workers reluctantly accepted the 'deal', the whole world thinks that the dispute is over and the workers have gone back to work - yet the situation has little changed since they were first locked out.

Now the workers want the world to know that they are still out in the cold and they want the mass media to come back and report on their plight and for the labour and trade union movement to help support them morally and financially.

For this purpose they have called for a mass gathering on the Hill from all their supporters on this Sunday (23 October 2005).

They also want to picket Downing Street on Tuesday the 25th October at 12.30 pm. Furthers details about transport etc. about this event will be issued later.

Please do your best to come to the Hill this Sunday. Bring your friends, relatives, work mates and inform anyone you can.
