Jess Fenn, a TUC Academy trained organiser, in currently working (in a voluntary capacity) with Hackney TUC.

Jess has a number of objectives:

• To try to generate a ‘snapshot’ of trade union organisation in the borough based on information from regional trade union offices and our existing members, supporters and contacts. We want to establish a list of every employer in the borough where there is existing union organisation, and to ensure that we have a contact within each union branch.

• To encourage affiliation to Hackney TUC from all union branches in Hackney. Please try to get the attached affiliation form completed before Jess contacts you.
• To offer an initial advice session on development of branch recruitment and organising strategies. Very often we spend our time ‘fire-fighting’, responding to initiatives by employers, or dealing with extensive individual caseloads. Jess can advise and support branches on ways to increase communication with members and how to involve members in activity that supports and strengthens branch structures. Jess has experience as an organiser across a wide range of employers, and contexts. This really is an opportunity that branches should take up (but it is first come first served, so let us know if you want this assistance).
