The struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, or it may be both. But it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand; it never has and it never will. |

18/10/2006 - 19:30 18/10/2006 - 21:00 Hosted jointly by Hackney TUC and Leabridge branch Labour Party - at the Marie Lloyd Hospitality Room, Hackney Empire, 291 Mare Street Speakers will include:
The question of the Labour Party leadership has, so far, been dominated by the media and trade unionists, rank and file Labour Party members and working class people have been sidelined in the debate. This meeting is an opportunity to participate in the future of Labour debate. So far John McDonnell and Gordon Brown are the only ones to have declared they are candidates for the leadership. Below are some of the policies that John is campaigning for, but what issues do you think the new Labour leader should be putting forward? Come along and have your say. • Withdrawal of British troops from Iraq • End to privatisation • Abolition of student fees and full support for comprehensive education • Restoration of civil liberties and trade union rights • A green energy policy based upon renewable power sources • Increase in the Basic State Pension and the immediate restoration of the earnings link. Leaflets advertising the meeting - in both English and Turkish - are attached.
