GMB needs your help in leafleting JJB Sports stores this weekend
SUPPORT JJB SPORTS WORKERS' STRIKE IN WIGAN
Outside stores in Brighton, Bristol, Oxford Street, Leicester, Manchester , Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds York and Newcastle (check JJB's website [1] for locations)
272 GMB members employed by JJB Sports at the warehouse in Wigan that supplies all 430 JJB Sports shops in the UK are currently taking strike action to secure a better basic rate of pay and a bonus system to allow workers to earn more when they work hard. Currently most workers are on the National Minimum Wage of £5.35 per hour and either have no access to the bonus scheme or their targets are set so high that the scheme yields no money.
The GMB is calling for solidarity action in support of the strike at the JJB Sports Warehouse in Wigan. The warehouse supplies goods to all JJB stores across the country. GMB members have been branded "communists" by the owner of the company for rejecting a 3% pay rise on top of their £5.35 per hour pay.
Global Justice campaign group No Sweat [2] are mobilising with GMB members and activists and supporters from other unions to picket JJB stores in Brighton, Bristol, Oxford Street, Leicester, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds York and Newcastle this Saturday from 11:00am.
Please support our striking members. Come along and help us leaflet. A copy of the leaflet is attached.
