London Underground To Close 40 Ticket Offices And Cut Dozens More

London Underground Ltd plans savage cuts to its ticket offices (details below), saying this is because more people use Oyster. But Underground workers and their trades unions know that passengers still need ticket offices, because:

  • Not everyone uses Oyster.

  • Oyster is a complex system and Oyster users often need help.
  • There are often long queues at our existing ticket offices.
  • If you have to pay at your destination, you may have to wait for ages.
  • Sometimes, phonelines, websites and touchscreens are no substitute for human contact.

The unions also object to the loss of 270 staff positions and the increased risk of assault on staff working in ticket halls.

Workers and passengers united can stop these cuts. Please join our campaign to keep your ticket offices open.

What you can do to protest against these cuts and closures:

  • Write to your MP c/o House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA.

  • Write to Ken Livingstone and to your Greater London Assembly member c/o City Hall, The Queen's Walk, London SE1 2AA.
  • Sign the online petition.
  • Download, copy and distribute the attached leaflets.
  • Download and use the attached petition.
  • Invite a speaker to your union branch meeting or other organisation. Email HTUC President Janine Booth to arrange a speaker.
