HTUC Public meeting: Fighting Gordon Brown's pay and job cutsSubmitted by Janine on Fri, 12/10/2007 - 18:17.
31/10/2007 - 18:30 31/10/2007 - 20:30 Hackney TUC in association with the Public and Commercial Services Union and Unison Wednesday 31st October, 6:30 pm Speakers: Mark Serwotka, PCS General Secretary; Janine Booth, RMT; Glenn Kelly, Unison NEC (pc); CWU activist (invited) Gordon Brown is insisting that public sector workers must accept pay cuts in real terms in order to combat inflation - yet public sector workers are the victims of inflation, not the cause. Postal workers are in a national dispute over pay, conditions, jobs and working practices. Hundreds of thousands of civil servants are set to take action over pay, job cuts, privatisation and conditions. Almost a million local government workers are balloting for strike action over pay. Teachers are facing four years of pay restraint and considering balloting for action. Trade unionists in Hackney are coming together to discuss the joint problems that we face and how the unions should react. We want to discuss ways of building solidarity with each other. Please come along and join in the debate. A poster is attached; please download and distribute it. For more information call Charlie on 07504 069113.
