Visteon workers: public meeting Thursday 16th April CLR James Library 24 - 30 Dalton Lane E8 3AZ near Dalston Junction

Hackney Trades Union Council is hosting a public meeting in support of the Visteon workers who have occupied their plant at Enfield for the last week. Hundreds of Visteon workers were told shortly before the end of their shifts that the plant was going into administration and that they had to leave without their wages being paid.

They were also told that their redundancy pay and their pensions would be slashed. Some workers, due to their length of service 35-40 years, could have expected up to £60,000 if made redundant. Due to the actions of management the maximum payment would have been reduced to £9,000.

All this was despite the whole of the work force previously being employed by Ford motor cooperation and their terms and conditions being transferred with them. It is ironic that a Labour Government has given billions of pounds to the bankers who have contributed to the current financial crisis yet will not come to the aid of workers in manufacturing.

Come to this meeting and hear directly from Ford Visteon workers at Enfield and their supporters in the trade union movement to insure that they have a future and are not faced with a permanent dole queue.
