We have been enjoined by the courts, assaulted by thugs, charged by the militia, traduced by the press, frowned upon in public opinion, and deceived by politicians. But notwithstanding all this and all these, labor is today the most vital and potential power this planet has ever known, and its historic mission is as certain of ultimate realization as is the setting of the sun. |
Workers' advice project: first sessionSubmitted by Janine on Tue, 16/02/2010 - 20:46.
The session began with a collective discussion of rights at work, led by Arpita Dutt (an employment solicitors) and Wilf Sullivan (TUC race equality officer). The discussion was simultaneously interpreted to allow full participation of Turkish and Kurdish speakers. Following the collective discussion there was individual one-to-one advice provided by both lawyers and union organisers. Overall the day was a great success, and Hackney Unites are looking to work with other community groups to spread the word about employment rights, how to assert them and the roles of trades unions. If you know of a community group willing to host an advice session please contact Hackneyunites@btinternet.com ( categories: in our local communities )
