Dear comrade,

Last week Britain saw a new Government formed of the two parties that totally oppose the best interests of all trade unionists and their families. Many of our members may have voted Lib Dem believing that they were a genuine alternative to a Tory Government. What happened last week has simply confirmed that the Lib Dems are little more than the junior partner of our class enemy the Conservative party and have proved it buy coming to the rescue of David Cameron by propping a Tory party which on its own was unable to achieve a majority, after 13 years of a Labour government and all its difficulties.

Within hours of entering office they have proposed budget cuts of £6bn and we must be under no illusion this is only the first wave of cuts. This £6bn cuts will not be aimed at the rich or the business class, but will be savagely aimed at our members and their families. It will wipe away thousands upon thousands of public sector jobs. The removal of family tax credits and the increase in VAT will reach deep into the pockets of all trade unionist and their families. This will be only the first wave of attacks as once again a Tory government forces working people to pay for the crisis of their economic system. We must be ready to resist from the outset this coalition of the cutters, we have a duty to our members and our families.

We have called an urgent meeting to discuss and plan the campaign, its aims and objectives and how it will be organized. We urge a massive attendance from each workplace to ensure that this campaign is launched with the energy, determination and urgency that our class enemies in the Cameron, Clegg government have shown in their campaign against our movement and its living standards. There is an emergency budget scheduled for the 22nd June a first aim must be to mobilize for that and demonstrate to Cameron and Clegg that their attacks will be resisted by our movement. The GMB is proud to put itself at the forefront of the resistance to the coalition of the cutters.

look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting on the 3rd June, our time has come to fightback!!
Yours in solidarity,
Keith Henderson
