Call for a Hackney Alliance to defend our public services - UpdateSubmitted by glynharries on Fri, 09/07/2010 - 14:00.
Brief personal overview by Glyn Harries; Pluses; great attendance (over 45), people adapted well to not having the hall at the start, wide range of people particularly from unions, , thought the discussion was good and generally focused, chair got as many people to speak as possible and at least half did, good practical suggestions re 'reply-all list' and 'sub groups adopted', what disagreements there were overtaken by task in hand, seemed to be commitment from those there, wide range of tactics proposed What I think was agreed; 'reply-all list' - proposed by Anne Marie of HUWG- Hackney Unemployed Workers Group and adopted 'sub/working groups' suggested by Camille of FHN-Friends of Hackney Nurseries and adopted, though not totally defined that there was a consensus the meeting was in favour of a specific, as yet un-named, 'Hackney Alliance ....Public Services", as opposed to using the various existing Hackney co-ordinations, but we did not have the time to formally agree a name or dconstitution or elect officers that Glyn Harries ( Hackney Homes Unison/HTUC) be temporary convenor till next meeting that there be the next general meeting in 2 weeks to 'cross i's and dot t's' that the subgroups start to work asap and report back to that meeting Sub/working groups; these would at first collate facts about cuts and about resistance, for dissemination via a webiste and or bulletin ( i only have a few names down- i am sure there were more who indicated) people indicated interest in the following groups - health - Lorna Soloman, Diana Swingler from the unionside and Bronwen Handyside and Nic?? from KONP - pensions/pensioners - Mick Gosling and Gareth Jenkins - community groups - John Page, - trade unions/mapping - Matt Waterfall, Glyn Harries, Jane Holgate -transport - Janine Booth, Jane Holgate - website/bulletin/etc - tom dale, There were two suggestions re the working groups meeting; either that they meet autonomously or they all meet in the same room at the same time to enable cross over ( from Mick Gosling). [I would suggest using the main hall at the MOTH which has a load of 'booths'] but that they would then come back to the main meeting Re Name, Officers and Constitution, nothing was agreed though there was some debate about how many officers etc. please circulate ideas asap on the reply all list. Next meeting; ( categories: Info for union reps | against cuts and privatisation | in our local communities | organising unions )
