Free training: union organising and your workplace

Submitted by glynharries on Tue, 27/07/2010 - 10:21.

Are you in a workplace where the union is not recognised, or where, in the current climate, it needs to be better organised? Hackney Unites and Hackney TUC have teamed up to provide a training course where you can explore how to union organise your workplace and have the opportunity to network with other trade unionists from Hackney.

Hackney Unites, has been running a ‘Workers Advice Project’ since March of this year. We are working with progressive lawyers, trade union organisers and local community organisations to provide advice about problems at work.

We are pleased to announce that we are now in a position to run a short course on ‘organising your workplace.’ The course will amount to 10 hours of training, delivered in two hour sessions over five consecutive weeks.

The course will be provided by professional trade union trainers and will be designed to meet our needs here in Hackney.

The first session will be an introduction to the course, and will explore issues around organising techniques. It will also be an opportunity for those who participate to express the issues that they want the subsequent sessions to focus on. The remaining sessions will then address the specific issues identified by the group.

This course will be suitable whether you are an existing trade union rep, a member who wishes to get more involved in your union, or simply someone who wants to join a union and develop a union culture of support and solidarity in your workplace.

It is anticipated that the course will start in early September, but if you are interested please drop an email to info@hackneyunites.org.uk with:
