London Underground To Close 40 Ticket Offices And Cut Dozens More

London Underground Ltd plans savage cuts to its ticket offices (details below), saying this is because more people use Oyster. But Underground workers and their trades unions know that passengers still need ticket offices.

Thousands of trade unionists from across the UK will converge on London to demand “Public Services Not Private Profit”

Fourteen public sector trade unions are now supporting the Public Services Not Private Profit campaign: ASLEF, CWU, CYWU, FBU, NAPO, NASUWT, NATFHE, NUJ, NUS, NUT, POA, PCS, RMT and TSSA.

Local RMT members and supporters joined a lively demonstration through London on Saturday 30th April, demanding that rail privatisation be reversed.

OK, so there is no Tube in Hackney, but plenty of people in the Borough use London Underground, and a fair few of us work on it.



Finsbury Park RMT branch is affiliated to Hackney TUC, and represents train drivers, revenue inspectors and station staff on the Victoria and Piccadilly lines, and cleaners across the whole Underground.

March 7th is designated International Railway Workers Action Day by the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF). RMT is organising these events as part of its 'Rail Against Privatisation' campaign.

Part of RMT's 'Rail Against Privatisation' campaign, this rally marks the arrival in London of the union's two-week long march from Glasgow.

Last year, London's fire service management produced its 'London Safety Draft Plan' - which soon became known as the 'Daft Plan' to firefighters and their union, the FBU. The London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA), proposes to:

• close Manchester Square Fire Station in Marylebone;

• reduce staffing levels at fire stations with two fire appliances;
• remove fire appliances from the following fire stations: Westminster; Knightsbridge, Kensington; Euston; Acton; Bethnal Green; Clerkenwell; Dockhead; Greenwich and Islington;
• cut 178 firefighters' jobs across London, including 32 in our neighbouring Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Hackney has four fire stations - at Shoreditch, Homerton, Stoke Newington and Kingsland. Although none face the axe, Hackney's fire cover will be adversely affected in several ways:
