In October 2006 The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 came into force. It is now unlawful to discriminate either directly or indirectly against workers on the basis of their age.

As part of LGBT History Month, the TUC is holding a conference to raise union awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans issues at international level. The conference is designed for union leaders, officials and activists. Speakers will include personal testimonies from around the world as well as Foreign Office Human Rights Minister Ian Pearson MP and Education International General Secretary Fred van Leeuwen.

A new show about exile, displacement, migration and the search for employment and security in a global economy Featuring the stories of refugee cleaners in London's Canary Wharf, Chinese cockle-pickers in Morecambe Bay, Iranian asylum seekers and Irish, African/Caribbean and South Asian immigrant communities.



Wild Geese is a video ballad interweaving interviews, documentary film and animation with live music and song. It features the musical styles of Africa,America, Asia and Europe - from reggae, rap and rock to folk, flamenco and klezmer - with strong messages about the human costs of globalisation.

Speakers include Rev Jesse Jackson, Lee Jasper, Karen Chouhan, Milena Buyum, Simon Woolley.

Organised by Operation Black Vote, in conjunction with BLF, NAAR and the 1990 Trust.

Hackney Unison's Equality Officer, John Page, has been sacked for challenging institutional racism within Hackney Council.

Hackney TUC and Hackney UNISON are asking campaigners to send this postcard to Trevor Phillips, Chair of the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE). After Mr Phillips asked trade unionists to tell him about racist practices at work, we wanted to make sure that he knew our concerns about insitutional racism towards black employees of Hackney Council.

Hackney TUC has produced a special newsletter in support of the 'Anti-racist 3'. John Page, Will Leng and Brian Debus (pictured) are all officers of Hackney UNISON. Hackney Council has taken disciplinary action against them over the production of a report into racism against black Council workers.



This newsletter sets out the facts of the case, provides information about the campaign, and carries several messages of support from trade unionists and others around the country.
