Londoners will vote for the mayor and London Assembly on 1 May 2008. Due to the part proportional representation system in the election, the BNP will gain a seat on the Assembly if they gain more than 5% of the total votes cast. If they gain more than 8% they will gain two seats.

Gordon Brown is insisting that public sector workers must accept pay cuts in real terms in order to combat inflation - yet public sector workers are the victims of inflation, not the cause.

This will be an open meeting as we have a presentation on employment law and in particular recent changes in the law relating to unfair dismissal.

'Eliminating age discrimination at work, while protecting existing terms and conditions'

In October 2006 The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 came into force. It is now unlawful to discriminate either directly or indirectly against workers on the basis of their age.

Over 50 people attended a public meeting on Wednesday 26th July in Hackney to protest against East London line privatisation. Both speakers and audience pledged their commitment to fighting for the East London Line to remain in public hands and for the extension to bring a public Tube to Hackney.

All trade union members who live or work in Hackney are welcome.
