Hackney TUC Annual General Meeting

HTUC will hold its annual general meeting on Wednesday 24 Feburary between 7-8pm at the Cafe Z bar on Stoke Newington High Street (opposite the police station).

It is open to all but only current delegates to HTUC will be allowed to vote.

Hackney TUC AGM to be addressed by US trade unionists

The annual general meeting of Hackney TUC will be on 12 February at 7pm (venue to be confirmed).

Fantastic guest speakers

The meeting will also be an opportunity to hear from US trade unionists from the SEIU and the Steelworkers unions who were seconded to work with the Barack Obama presidential campaign and helped to co-ordinate the trade union mobilisation for Obama.

Londoners will vote for the mayor and London Assembly on 1 May 2008. Due to the part proportional representation system in the election, the BNP will gain a seat on the Assembly if they gain more than 5% of the total votes cast. If they gain more than 8% they will gain two seats.

Gordon Brown is insisting that public sector workers must accept pay cuts in real terms in order to combat inflation - yet public sector workers are the victims of inflation, not the cause.

This will be an open meeting as we have a presentation on employment law and in particular recent changes in the law relating to unfair dismissal.

In October 2006 The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 came into force. It is now unlawful to discriminate either directly or indirectly against workers on the basis of their age.
