Info for union repsWhat is Hackney TUC?Submitted by Janine on Fri, 16/12/2005 - 19:27.
It’s a shop stewards'/reps' network for the borough. Hackney TUC brings together trade unionists who live or work in the borough to share knowledge and experience, to build solidarity, and to provide mutual support. We meet once a month, largely informally, but we also occasionally hold large public meetings. We are particularly keen for trade unionists who live in the borough to get involved and to bring fresh ideas and energy which can be shared and developed. ( categories: Info for union reps )
Workplace stress: part twoSubmitted by Janine on Tue, 21/09/2004 - 08:12.
Stress is sometimes not regarded as an obvious health and safety hazard. The key is to identify the causes and symptoms (see part one), and be prepared to act. On the surface, stress may not seem as direct a threat as asbestos, infectious diseases, or needlestick injuries. With those hazards, the threat is clearly identifiable and the health impacts are commonly understood. ( categories: Info for union reps | for health and safety )

Useful information from the TUCSubmitted by Janine on Sun, 29/08/2004 - 20:35.
The TUC website has a lot of useful information on employment law. It includes advice on contracts of employment, dismissal, health & safety, rights for working parents, employment tribunals and more. There is a handy list of when you get which rights: which start on day one, which you have to wait one month, one year, or even two years to claim. You can link to it by clicking here. The TUC also runs a website, WorkSmart, with lots of useful information. ( categories: Info for union reps )
