Haggerston School Teachers to Strike

NUT members at Haggerston School in Hackney are to strike next week on Thursday 9th July against proposed redundancies.

This follows an outstanding ballot result with a 100% turnout! 37 ballot papers issued, 37 returned. 36 in favour of discontinuous strike action, 1 against.




Defend Victimised Teachers

Some 35 NUT members at Haggerston School, East London, face the prospect of disciplinary action (up to dismisssal for gross misconduct) for respecting a picket line mounted by striking members of the T&G/Unite who work for the multinational privateer, Sodexho, in the school's PFI-built canteen.

Meet opposite Homerton Hospital in the Park at 1pm - march to Hackney Town Hall - protest at Hackney town Hall with other colleges at 2pm.

Free - or at least affordable - English lessons for speakers of other langauages (ESOL) are under attack.

On Thursday 30th June, kids, parents, teachers and supporters demonstrated outside the offices of Hackney's Learning Trust in defence of Homerton and Haggerston schools, and opposing their replacement with academies.

Mossbourne Community Academy

Nearly a hundred people attended a public meeting to oppose the closure of local school Homerton College of Technology and the spread of academy schools in Hackney. Called jointly by Hackney's local branches of NUT and UNISON, the meeting attracted parents, school students, teachers, trade unionists and community activists.
