Hackney TUC postal workers support group

On Wednesday 28 October, trade unionists in Hackney gathered to discuss how we can support the postal workers in their long-running dispute.

Postal workers told us repeatedly that they were in favour of modernisation; what they were not prepared to put up with was being reduced to packhorses with ever increasing rounds.

RMT Pledges Full Support For CWU Postal Workers

SPECIALIST TRANSPORT union RMT today pledged its full support for the CWU postal workers in their fight for a secure future and decent pay and conditions and a delegation from the union, including General Secretary Bob Crow, will be joining the picket line at Mount Pleasant sorting office on Thursday (22nd October) at 4.30pm.


TSSA members in occupation!

At 10.00am management from Thomas Cook arrived at shops in Dublin to enforce closure. Members refused and are now occupying the shops. The context to this dispute is a company that seeks to consolidate and increase profits through the closure of more than 100 shops, the closures in Dublin fly in the face of these shops making more than £400 million profit during 2008.

Haggerston School Teachers to Strike

NUT members at Haggerston School in Hackney are to strike next week on Thursday 9th July against proposed redundancies.

This follows an outstanding ballot result with a 100% turnout! 37 ballot papers issued, 37 returned. 36 in favour of discontinuous strike action, 1 against.
